Cover and Spine Styles

Finao offers three distinct cover and spine style combinations to coordinate with your album design.

Album binding can make or break the presentation of your images. At Finao, we use a case bound, folio-style of construction. You don't lose any of your image in the center, and the pages lay nicely when the book is open. You can also breathe easy knowing the moments you captured will last far into the future—we combine flexible hinges that lay flat with a solid spine that supports the page block when closed.

What are spine hubs?

Hubs are the raised, horizontal bands or ridges on the outside spine of a case bound book; the cover material conforms to the shape of inserts placed under it. Historically the hub on a book's spine was made from thread or string that helped to bind and strengthen the book. Hubs are now just a purely stylistic, aesthetic choice. As most modern books are machine-bound, hubs have become rare and add a distinctive quality that signifies a hand-bound album.

An album with hubs must use a cover material with flexibility, like leather or fabric, to conform to the shape of the hubs. That is why we cannot pair hubs with photo wraps or in paper-covered books like playPAL™, no matter how high quality the paper.

While we have standard hub placement on our Signature and Vintage styles, we can add custom hubs of almost any thickness or height (just request a custom quote).
